Sometimes our routine water samples are tested for bacteria. Most of the time the water is safe, but if a test shows coliform bacteria or other contamination, we need to take extra steps to be sure. This policy explains when you will and will not see a Boil Water Notice.
Repeat testing – If a routine test shows coliform bacteria, we take more samples the next day at several places in the system. This tells us whether the problem is real or just a single bad sample.
Wait for results – We normally wait for these follow-up results before deciding whether to issue a notice.
Immediately if dangerous E. coli bacteria are found.
Immediately if the County requires us to issue one.
After repeat tests if coliform bacteria are confirmed in several places.
A single low level positive coliform test by itself does not mean the water is unsafe, and it usually does not trigger a boil notice.
If a Boil Water Notice is needed, we’ll notify residents as quickly as possible by:
Email and/or text alert
Posting at the well pump house bulletin board
Posting the banner on this website
When the County confirms the water is safe again, we’ll send a “clear notice” so you know the Boil Water Notice is lifted.
We take water safety very seriously. Notices are only sent when necessary to protect health, based on state and county requirements.
